How it all started

Way back when , a bartender by trade by the name of Oli Pluck, took his trade all round the world and in the process landed some pretty big and cool consultancy gigs. With 'bartenders back, aching feet and well-worn hands he wanted to settle back down here in the UK but was becoming more and more frustrated by the caliber of service from city centre bars and restaurants.  With a nagging feeling that so many corporate cocktail bars promoted profit over passion and executed customer service with nothing more than a simple smile. Oli was determination to change the way we order and drink cocktails socially. With many options to his availability he opted to leave the crowded city centres to their own devices and branch out to the suburbs of Leeds to one neighbourhood in particular which literally was crying out for attention...Hyde Park!

After a short stint of bartending in New York Oli saw great similarities between a current Hyde Park and a 1970's East Village. Rough a ready by nature but bustling with musicians, artists and cutting edge students. The aim was simple, which was to offer the open minded residents of Hyde Park not only a new place to drink but a new wave experience of social drinking. Not just the best cocktails but also the best craft beers and wine to match the killer playlists, atmosphere and customer service.
Having worked all over, from 5* Hotels to NY Dive bars. Oli has had the pleasure of consulting on the Royal wedding in 2011 and then on the 2012 & 2016 Olympics. Recently ranking 2nd in the UK Bacardi Legacy competition and coming runner up to the worlds best cocktail bar WHITE LYAN. Oli is not only proud of the bar he has built (Literally) but is also overwhelmed by the warmth and love from everyone who comes to visit .

With a dedicated and passionate team behind him, The East Village is proud to coin the team a" New Wave Dive Bar'. The term Dive bar coming from a 1850's New York. The East Village team provides great drinks in a laid back atmosphere, with a soundtrack to match. Taking over from where the TV show Cheers left off, The East Village sets out to be a place where everyone knows your name. With the new cocktail menu promoting 40+ unique signature cocktails you can still get a cold beer and a exceptional bottle of wine accompanied by Americans oldest food of choice...A 100% all beef hot dog.

We wish everyone to come down with a open mind and a laid back attitude. From there you can sit back and soak up the vibe and sip on whatever beverage takes your fancy and just let the good times roll.
